You stick a garden-plot with ordered twigs

Yields mere basement for the soul's emprise

Like a sea jelly weak on Patmos strand

Deadened of its absolute blaze

But 't was Cerinthus that is lost

Carpet-stripes for those sand-paths

Being but a foolish mimic sun

Artistic endowments and matrimonial vicissitudes

The stimulus of talk and laughter

If I might add a glory to the scheme

The spotless fabric of her happiness

A sort of ring of Polycrates

A perfect rectitude of intention

Why not build a squash-court

The result of contending influences

The assault of her eloquence

Even the little flower-like ears

At that noonday hour
